Functioning as a show apartment, we were recently brought on by Sun Hung Kai Properties to develop the interiors of a three-bedroom apartment in Hong Kong. Here, we bathed the interiors with a palette of bold colours and textures to impart a collection of whimsical yet restorative spaces, an environment that may encourage young couples to visualise themselves living and growing their families.
In the living room, a soft beige forms the base of the walls, while different sounds of orange create a more snug, family-oriented feel. These notes can be found in the kitchen cabinets, curtains, and cushions covers, where its warmth inspires the use of polished brass as detailed accents in the joinery and sliding doors.
The custom joinery and furniture highlight our tailored approach to visualising how a family may congregate in such a space. Bespoke pieces such as the built-in cabinets, bed frames, a sofa, and wooden coffee tables were designed with a cylindrical silhouette and acted as the necessary tools for a family to create a nurturing home.
Blonde and dark brown timbers sit side by side, enhancing the feeling of lightness as natural light pierces through the windows. Harsh textures such as stone, marble, and metal continue to exist throughout the home, required to lay the foundations and to add a sense of tension to each space..
A corridor leads down to a sequence of three bedrooms, each offering a unique interpretation of the personality that may inhibit this home. The children’s bedroom takes on a more playful persona, featuring carved, cave-like shelves and bolder textures, while the master bedroom utilises rigid volumes and dark-toned fabrics such as dark greens, browns, and greys to imply a more mature image.
