By blending Japanese and Scandinavian influences, the home captures a sense of elegance and purity through minimalist volumes, clean lines, and sprawling views of Tai Mo Shan.
Set amidst the leafy suburbs of Hong Kong, RACH is a nurturing family abode where rare moments of stillness and repose can be found within a bustling city.
Layout-wise, the home is split evenly between two parts, a formal wing and a family wing developed in parallel to the mountains. Navigation is informed by a central axis where a sequence of spaces unfold along a linear corridor: running from the living and dining room to the guest bedroom, son’s bedroom, and master bedroom tucked away to elude any hustle and bustle.
The living room, dining room, and balcony remain open to one another to maximise the little space that was available while the vaulted ceilings add further to the illusion of a greater space. The helper’s bedroom is contained within the kitchen, serving as a small pocket of privacy when she cooks. To maintain a clean aesthetic throughout the home, we also placed a strong emphasis on built-in storage by introducing a series of bespoke cabinets that line the walls along the entrance and core living areas.
A material palette of similar tonalities was used to reinstate a clean aesthetic. Beige formed the basis of RACH utilising St Leo’s Marble Paint to lay the foundations. Tactile surfaces such as timber, wool, and velvet are offset by more treated textures such as glass, stone, and marble. With beauty in the detail, vertical slats were layered into the custom cabinets and wardrobes to add depth to the home as it responds to torrents of natural light.
In line with the family’s affinity for Scandinavian designs, the home features a number of furnishings which are known for their exquisite craftsmanship and rich heritage - including Menu's Eave Modular Sofa, Androgyne Lounge and Side Table, Karimoku Case Study Series Dining Table, &Tradition Lamps and Lounge Chairs, and Santa & Cole Ceiling and Floor Lamps - where materials and textures collied to create an enduring home.
