“Located in the heart of Ho Man Tin is our project, LOVE, a living dialogue between form, function, and art.”

We worked closely with the homeowners on this project, making way for a highly-tailored abode, meeting their plans on growing their family, while embracing their passion for art and music.

Beginning as a series of compartmentalised spaces, we reshuffled the organisation of rooms within the 830 sqft apartment, housing an open plan living and dining area by the entrance and the master bedroom, bathroom, children’s bedroom, and kitchen, sectioned away as small pockets for privacy; a clear divide to establish boundaries between work and leisure. We constructed the living area as a central gathering hub, ensuring that it was generous in size, brightly lit, and equipped with state-of-the-art HIFI systems, intended as a welcoming space for family and friends to come together for long dinners or endless talks. The kitchen is concealed behind the sliding doors by the entrance, equipped with a simple L-shaped kitchen counter and plentiful storage.

A consistent material palette was maintained throughout the apartment, consisting of white and brown tones that evoke a feeling of comfort and enclosure. These brown tones intensify as we transition from the living area to the master bedroom, with a palette dependent on the privacy of each space.

A simple aesthetic provides the homeowners with a blank canvas, an invitation for them to add their flair and colour through their prized possessions. A pink toned piece hangs above the dining table while an antique Chinese vase is on display in the arched recess of the living room. The home’s aura resembles that of a curated art gallery, a collection of vibrant artwork complimented with homely, wooden furniture, handpicked from Japan. Subtle influences from the Japanese philosophy of wabi sabi are further expressed through simple geometric forms and custom joinery, harnessing beauty through rich, raw materials and imperfect connections.

To combat the boxy nature of the apartment, arches and curves were integrated into the ceiling design, intensifying the interplay between light and shadow. It’s positioning informs the divisions of spaces within the home while paying homage to Andy Warhol’s studio, the Factory. The striking colour and intricate detailing of these art works bring them centre stage in the home, serving as a great conversation piece when visitors enter the home.
